KSSB Offers Discount For Bulk Buying Of Sand (18-07-2010) Print E-mail

SHAH ALAM -- Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) today said the company would offer a discount to any customer for bulk buying of sand. News from Bernama, July 18, 2010.

"Giving of discounts for bulk buying is a normal business practice to increase KSSB's volume of sales," said the company in a statement today to clarify media reports quoting Selangor Umno liaison deputy chief Datuk Seri Noh Omar as saying that there were proof of malpractice and favouritism by KSSB in selling sand to building contractors.

The statement was jointly issued by KSSB chairman Abdul Shukor Nagor, its chief executive officer Ir Ramli Abdul Majed and the board of directors.

Noh was reportedly saying yesterday that from information received, one company was given a discount of 22 per cent or RM4 for the purchase of each tonne of sand priced at RM17.50 while other companies were given a 50-sen discount only for each tonne.

He also claimed that KSSB provided credit to a company and five contractors to mine sand without having to pay a deposit.

"On the issue of credit, any amount owed to KSSB by any customer would be collected just like in other ordinary business transactions," the statement said.

According to the statement, all allegations and claims made by various quarters against KSSB would be discussed and addressed during the public hearing session by the Selangor Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency to be held soon.

"We also welcome the authorities including the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the complaints," said KSSB in the statement.

KSSB is a Selangor government subsidiary company entrusted with carrying out sand mining and sale in the state.
